Principle
Disc centrifuge uses centrifugal force to separate microbial cells. It has a set of discs inside, and when the centrifuge rotates at high speed, the microbial cell mixture is introduced into the centrifuge drum. Due to the effect of centrifugal force, microbial cells and other components (such as culture medium, cell debris, etc.) will produce different radial movement speeds between discs due to density differences. Microbial cells with higher density will move towards the edge of the drum, while components with lower density (such as clear liquid) will gather towards the center or other specific areas to achieve separation.
Operation steps:
Preparation work:
Firstly, ensure that the disc centrifuge is in good working condition and check whether the drum, disc and other components are installed correctly. Collect the mixture containing microbial cells in a suitable container and ensure that the volume of the mixture meets the requirements of the centrifuge to avoid overload.
Parameter setting:
Set appropriate rotational speed, feed rate, and separation time based on the characteristics of microbial cells (such as size, density, etc.) and separation requirements. Generally speaking, for smaller microbial cells, higher rotational speeds (such as 10000-15000 revolutions per minute) may be required. The feeding speed should be moderate, too fast may lead to incomplete separation, and too slow may affect work efficiency. The separation time also needs to be adjusted according to the actual situation, usually ranging from a few minutes to several tens of minutes.
Feeding process:
Start the centrifuge and slowly and evenly introduce the mixed liquid into the centrifuge drum. During the feeding process, it is important to observe the operating status of the centrifuge to ensure that there are no abnormal vibrations or noises.
Separation and Collection:
During the centrifugation process, microbial cells gradually move towards the edge of the drum and deposit there, while the supernatant is separated into other areas. After centrifugation, stop feeding first, and then wait for the centrifuge to completely stop rotating. Afterwards, carefully open the centrifuge and collect the microbial cell sediment and supernatant separately using appropriate collection devices. For example, the sediment can be collected using a straw or by pouring, and the supernatant can be collected in another container.

3 phase disc stack separator is a high-speed, stable, sealed, efficient, and automatic slag discharge 3 phase separation equipment. It is widely used for liquid, liquid, solid 3-phase separation or liquid-liquid separation.
The 2-phase solid-liquid separation disc separator has only one liquid discharge port and one slag discharge port, while the 3-phase disc separator has two liquid discharge ports and one slag discharge port, which can separate two liquids with different specific gravity at the same time. It can also discharge solid phase materials. Compared with the 3 phase decanter centrifuge, the 3 phase disc separator has larger rotation speed and G force. The 3 phase decanter centrifuge usually has a separation factor of about 3000G, while the 3 phase disc stack separator G force is up to 12000G. Therefore, the 3 phase disc separator can more thoroughly separate liquids with different specific gravity and the liquid phase discharged is more clarified. However, compared to 3 phase decanter centrifuges, 3 phase disc separator is more used to separate materials containing fine particles, with less solids content. So before entering the 3 phase disc separator, the material can separated by the decanter centrifuge for pre-stage separation to reduce the solids content and remove big particles.

The disc centrifuge has a precise disc design. The discs inside the disc centrifuge have a very small spacing and are arranged in a conical shape, forming numerous narrow channels. When materials enter the centrifuge, under the action of centrifugal force, solid particles or impurities will quickly move along the lower surface of the discs to the edge of the rotating drum and deposit there. The clarified liquid can smoothly flow through the channels between the discs to the center of the rotating drum, thus realizing efficient separation of solids and liquids and obtaining highly clarified liquid.
